Project: Drehid Waste Management Facility Phase 15 Construction Works
Value: €2,330,000
Duration: August 2022 – April 2023
Client: Bord na Móna Recycling
Located in Co. Kildare, the Drehid facility is a critical national infrastructure for non-hazardous waste. This project involved the design and construction of a new landfill cell (Phase XV) to provide essential void space for Ireland’s waste management needs.
Priority Construction Ltd was appointed as the principal Works Contractor and PSCS to deliver the complete project.
Earthworks: Trimmed cell floor and embankments to design level using GPS-controlled plant.
Lining System: Installed a comprehensive cell lining system including:
20,000m² of geo-textile filter layer.
10,000m³ of engineered Bentonite Enhanced Soil (BES) liner.
20,000m² of 2mm HDPE liner with geotextile protection.
8,000 tonnes (500mm deep) of drainage stone.
Drainage & Utilities: Installed 750m of HDPE groundwater collection pipework, 350m of HDPE gas main, and over 300m of service ducting.
Civil Structures: Construction of an in-situ reinforced concrete headwall and 9 No. perimeter gas-monitoring boreholes.
Compliance: All works were executed under a rigorous Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) plan to EPA guidelines.
Deployed the country’s first Prinoth T14R 360° tracked dumpers to overcome challenging ground conditions, ensuring progress during poor weather without compromising the engineered liners.
Worked seamlessly with Bord na Móna’s operational team and key suppliers to coordinate logistics, ensuring zero disruption to live landfill operations.
Successfully managed site water to prevent contamination of natural watercourses, in full compliance with EPA regulations.
On-site batching and stockpiling of BES material ensured a consistent supply and streamlined the critical path lining activities.
