Background
This project involved the comprehensive upgrade of Graball Bay Road in Crosshaven village, requiring complete road reconstruction and utility service enhancements.
The works included installing new storm and foul water drainage systems, watermain infrastructure, and creating a temporary access road through adjacent farmland to maintain resident access during construction. The project also involved complex tidal works at the Graball Bay outlet, requiring careful scheduling around tide patterns.
Key Achievements
- Constructed 600m temporary access road with full tarmac pavement through farmland
- Installed 533m of new twinwall drainage pipes (225mm-600mm diameter)
- Laid 480m of new 180mm OD watermain with 26 residential meter boxes
- Built 45 manholes including backdrop, cascade and perfect base types
- Installed Tide Flex valve headwall and 43m concrete mesh pipeline in tidal zone
- Placed 1,140m of new road construction with multiple asphalt layers
- Removed and restored 3,000m³ of material to licensed facility
- Completed full farmland restoration in time for planting season
Project Outcome
- Successfully maintained resident access throughout construction via temporary diversion
- Completed complex tidal works within narrow tidal windows to environmental standards
- Coordinated multiple utility providers including ESB, Eir and Irish Water
- Restored agricultural land to farmer’s satisfaction following temporary road use
- Delivered essential infrastructure upgrade connecting to existing Point Lane systems
