Background
Executed comprehensive environmental remediation of the 2-hectare Belcamp site, addressing legacy contamination from illegal waste disposal.
The project involved excavation, removal and segregation of mixed commercial, municipal, industrial and construction waste to enable future redevelopment for industrial/commercial use.
Key Achievements
- Remediated 54,500m³ of contaminated material through excavation and processing
- Excavated and disposed of 8,500m³ hazardous material and 17,500m³ non-hazardous material off-site
- Processed 28,500m³ of construction and demolition waste on-site
- Installed 480m of foul sewer diversion and 300m of temporary storm water line
- Constructed 2,020m of boundary fencing and security hoarding
- Protected 85 segments of existing 24″ asbestos cement watermain
- Completed site restoration with 21,000m³ of imported natural material and replanting
Project Outcome
- Implemented GPS excavator technology for precise excavation and as-built recording
- Designed and operated on-site picking station for efficient waste segregation
- Utilised drag boxes as innovative alternative to traditional sheet piling
- Maintained comprehensive environmental monitoring (dust, water, noise) throughout works
- Completed project €150,000 under original contract value
- Engaged local security and labour while protecting existing water courses and hedgerows
