Background
This project involved the remediation of a 4-hectare unauthorised disposal site within St. Mary’s Public Park, a 13.5-hectare protected area on King’s Island between the River Shannon and River Abbey.
The works addressed significant environmental risks in this Special Area of Conservation by removing years of accumulated household waste that threatened local ecology and public amenity space.
Key Achievements
- Remediated 25,000m³ of unauthorised waste from 4-hectare park area
- Processed waste through on-site trommel and picking station for maximum recycling
- Implemented 4-year Japanese Knotweed remediation and monitoring programme
- Reused compliant clay and topsoil materials to fill generated voids
- Installed new park furniture, signage and amenities
- Completed hard and soft landscaping to restore SAC
