Background
This project involved the critical remediation of contaminated land in a former quarry site adjacent to live 110kV overhead powerlines.
The works required specialised excavation techniques to remove municipal waste located in close proximity to ESB infrastructure while ensuring worker safety and maintaining the stability of the electrical pylon throughout the remediation process.
Key Achievements
- Excavated and removed 2,159m³ of municipal waste from sensitive location near powerlines
- Completed critical excavation works during designated powerline outage periods
- Backfilled excavations with 2,159m³ of Class 1 General Fill sourced locally
- Implemented specialised underpinning excavation sequence near pylon foundation
- Conducted auger works in areas where traditional excavation was not feasible
- Installed comprehensive monitoring system for pylon stability throughout works

- Successfully eliminated €40,000 crane stabilisation cost through value engineering solution
